Alakol nature reserve

The wetland complex of the territory with nesting colonies, and numerous species of copepods, grebes, gulls, terns is subject to protection. Special attention is paid to the protection of nesting and pink Dalmatian pelicans, Black-headed Gull, spoonbills, whooper swan, Savko, Demoiselle Crane , white-tailed eagle – birds put into Red Book of Kazakhstan. The uniqueness of Alakol lake is in its islands that are fool of breeding colonies of relict gulls, the rarest species from Red Book of International Union of Nature Conservation. Up to 5 million birds came or feeding and resting to the lake in large-scale seasonal migrations. Reserve is also playing a key role in the protection of them.
