Chagan – nuclear lake
Chagan lake is created as a result of the first soviet industrial thermonuclear explosion, made in 1965 in Chagan river-bed on Balapan test site that was one of the sites of Semipalatinsk nuclear ground. Opening «peaceful atom» soviet scientists planed to create several water reservoirs to accumulate floodwaters also. The project seemed to be promising especially the fact принять the bottom of such water sites after explosions turned to ideal reservoir for water. unfortunately, scientists’ calculations came short, and nowadays water in atom lake is contaminated and undrinkable. Radiation degree of the lake banks is over the normal nevertheless it is not dangerous for short visits. Atom lake is one of the main tourism objects on Semipalatinsk ground.
