FROM HELSINKI TO ASTANA

Summit in Astana will be the seventh in the history of the organization. Previous conducted in 1975 in Helsinki, in 1990 - in Paris in 1992 - again in Helsinki in 1994 - in Budapest in 1996 - in Lisbon and in 1999 - in Istanbul. Today it seems to matter is already settled, but how much effort was needed to achieve its holding in Kazakhstan, and what value will have this global forum for the country? Decision to hold a summit on the summit in Astana, was taken by foreign ministers of the OSCE Ministerial Council meeting in Athens. This decision is recorded in the Ministerial Declaration on the Process of Corfu, endorsed by all participants of the meeting of OSCE Foreign Ministers. The declaration specifically states: "We pay attention to the fact that such high-level meeting will require adequate training on the content and modalities. For Kazakhstan to obtain the right to hold an OSCE summit in Astana was not easy.
