East Kazakhstan is unique on its touristic potential. One can meet here Asian steppes, deserts with Siberian maintain taiga which make unique range of landscapes: ice-caped mountains, numerous rivers and lakes.
September, 2009 contest among the graduate school classes for the best photo on the theme «Tourism in our life», then contest for the best drawing on the theme: «Nature of Eastern Kazakhstan» among primary classes of the regional and city secondary schools were hold Timed to the World Tourism Day celebration on 17- 18.
On the 26th of September from 11.00 till 13.00 a.m. Regional department of tourism, physical training and sport with tourism firm “Meridian” organized street fair of tourism firms’ promotion products “(“Izumrudnyi Altai” Ltd, “Meridian”, Tropikana), souvenirs’ of hand art masters specialized in ceramics, Altai engraving, leather items, in “Zhastar” park. Also a contest for the best wallpaper “Season 2009” was conducted among tourism firms.
On the 27th of September from 10 till 11 a.m. was a solemn meeting in conference hall of the local city administration where a governor deputy Pinchuk G.V., East Kazakhstan regional maslihat secretary Ahayev V.I., a director of the regional department of tourism, physical training and sport took part. The best workers of the Tourism were awarded with the honest paper of the Regional governor, and the regional tourism, physical training and sport for their contribution to the tourism sphere development, also the winners of the contests were awarded with papers and presents. Also concert program took place.
 

Teams of tourism clubs, schools, out-of-school establishments of city and region took part in contests.
Totally 31 teams took part in championship.
Contest participants were involved in competitions on the line of obstacles, control- touristic route, contest on the tourism skills, tourism agitation, tourism songs. The first age group – teams of out-of-school establishments & tourism clubs, the second - - pupils of 7-11 floors and the junior group - pupils of 5-7 floors.
In the total team statement - price places were divided the following way:
The first place among teams of out-of-school establishments and clubs took ”Irbis”, Ust-Kamenogorsk, second place – team “Geolog”, Semei, the third place - team “Geolog -1 ”.
The first place among pupils took team of the school № 9 Ust-Kamenogorsk, second place - team of the school № 15, the third - team of the № 37 school.
The contest on the tourism line of obstacles among out-of-school establishments and clubs:
1 place – the team “Irbis”, Ust-Kamenogorsk,
2 place - team “Geolog”,
3 place - the team of Gluboki region.
The contest on control- touristic route among pupils:
1 place - team of the № 15 school,
2 place – team of № 39 school,
3 place – team of № 12 school.
The competition on the tourism agitation among the out-of-school establishments & tourism clubs:
1 place – team “Irbis”,
2 place “Geolog”,
3 place – team of the college named after Nurgaliyev, Ust-Kamenogorsk city.
The competition on the tourism agitation among the pupil teams:
1 place – team of the №15 school,
2 place - team of the № 9 school
3 place - team of the № 30 school, Ust-Kamenogorsk city.
The contest of the tourism song among the out-of-school establishments & tourism clubs:
1 place - team “Irbis”, “
2 place – team “Geolog”,
3 place– team of the college named after Nurgaliyev, Ust-Kamenogorsk city.
The contest of the tourism song among pupils:
1 place - team of the № 9 school
2 place - team of the № 37 school
3 place – team of the № 30 school.
Winner-teams are awarded with cups, diplomas, honor papers of several degrees and precious prices.
Totally more than 550 people took part in the Championship.

Also a new fountain was opened on the Irtysh quay behind the monument to fighters-internationalists.

On the eve, city residents enjoyed getting land sites, new houses, seeing the opening of Monuments. At the very holiday there were a lot of surprises and funny moments.
Holiday program began with Glory memorial, where region governor Berdibek Saparbayev, Ust-Kamenogorsk residents, veteran community put flowers to the Monument devoted to the fighters killed in Great Patriotic war.
After that there was enterprises’, organizations’ labor collectives, pupils, students, East Kazakhstan regional administrative center public institutions representatives strode along the Republic Square. Totally 15 thousand people took part in the procession. Holiday concert program was also organized there.
Also this day residents could watch the Kazakhstan Republic President N.A. Nazarbayev’s congratulatory speech broadcasted straight from Astana and also military parade devoted to Constitution day of Kazakhstan Republic.
It seemed the mostly pleased people were the residents of repaired courtyards and streets. This objects were opened solemnly that day.
‘Locomotive’ stadium doors were opened for Zaschita district residents. Sites for basketball, beach volleyball were equipped, football field was cleared, shower cabs and locker room were built there. Built in 1936 ‘Locomotive’ didn’t resemble a stadium last time.
The climax was the evening program in the area of Irtysh bridge. Spectators with their hart sank watched the parachute team showing air tricks, than cater and scooter performance took place.
