The State National Park "Kokshetau"
Is organized due to the decision of KR Government in April 1996, the aim of its foundation was reservation and restoration of the unique mountainous and lake systems, historical tombstones, archeology and culture of North Kazakhstan. Its largest part (to the Southwest of Kokshetau) occupies more than 182 000 hectares and includes mountain ranges, forest tracts and water areas of Zerenda, Imantau, Ayirtau and Shalkar native zones. There are 185 places of historical and cultural value, very important for archaeology, history, architecture and monumental art. In the aul of Syrymbet the country estate of Chokan Ualikhanov, the first Kazakh scientist, was reconstructed, a fine memorial of the wood architecture of the 19th century. The similar complex was constructed by Karasai and Agyntay national. The vegetable and animal kingdoms of the park present a rare co-habitation of flora and fauna of various epochs and latitude. Ancient ferns and lichens are under the cover of modern wood and shrub plants. Typical species of animals of Siberian taiga (elk, lynx, marten, white hare and ermine) co-exist with the inhabitants of the southern steps (korsak, gopher, grey hair, polecat, steppe marmot). Autumn and winter are the most favorable months for hunters. In summer the sunshine is streaming deep into forests. There you can hear the laughter and voices of people who came to enjoy the bounty of nature: mushrooms, cherry, stone bramble, dogrose, strawberry. In the lakes there are plenty of pikes, carps, crucian carps, perches and roaches. Zerenda is a charming world of forests, lakes, picturesque ravines, rocks, canyons and springs. The world that attracts tourists from different parts of the planet, the people who like to enjoy quiet woods, sweet fragrance of grass and to admire chamomile and bluebell meadows and shady birch woods. The air in pine woods is ozone-rich, clear and saturated with fragrance of them. The land is mapped out with tourist’s routes: forest paths, auto roads, horse ways and bike ways. Excellent ski-tracks are laid here. Forests, full of game, lakes, replete with fish, succulent pastures attracted man here from time immemorial.
